Key Skills

Here’s how to write a resume for engineering internships that’s at least as good:

1. Choose the Right Engineering Internship Resume Format

If yours was the only application, having a resume format that looks like you forgot a semicolon somewhere in an m-file probably wouldn’t hurt your chances too badly.

But yours is far from being the only application. So make your resume format as user-friendly as you wish Minitab was. Here’s how:

Engineering Internship Resume Format

Expert Hint: Always save or export your resume in PDF. The only exception is if you’ve been explicitly asked for something less stable, like *.docx format. Such file formats have their place and you should always follow internship application requirements.

2. Write an Attention-Grabbing Engineering Intern Resume Objective or Summary

You’re applying for an internship. You’ve been and probably still are, studying hard to get your engineering degree. You might not have any relevant work experience, and that’s OK.

Start with a resume objective statementif you’re writing an engineering internship resume with no experience.

Use:

  1. One adjective (studious, diligent, highly motivated)
  2. Job title (mechanical engineering student)
  3. Years of experience (4+, 5+, if any)
  4. What you hope to do for the company (apply theoretical knowledge and programming skills)
  5. Your most relevant 2–3 achievements (held prestigious Emma Hawken Scholarship)
